Phillip Van
RSA/Black Dog/Little Minx
Phillip Van is an award winning director and writer. His work often explores the surreal in the everyday and the lives of adolescents and outsiders. While in graduate film at NYU, he won a Student Academy Award and a BAFTA/LA award for his thesis. He went on to make narrative short films that won over a dozen awards in festivals including Berlin, Sundance, HBO US Comedy Arts, Seattle, Aspen and Gen Art.
Phillip has been busy with ad work ever since, helming spots and new media content for clients such as XBOX, YSL, Chevrolet and NBC. He was featured in Shoot Magazine’s “Up & Coming Directors” issue, named one of Filmmaker Magazine’s “25 New Faces of Independent Film,” and his work has been in Creativity, Shots, the New York Times, on MTV, Pitchfork, Stereogum and gaming sites Joystiq and G4tv.
Spots that he directed have been on AdAge’s “Best Ads” and have won national and regional Addy awards, ProMax Awards and One Show and D&AD yellow pencil awards. Phillip is from a multi-ethnic background, grew up in Portland, Oregon and currently lives in Brooklyn.
