Juan Cabral is an acclaimed writer and director, having helmed the industry’s most iconic spots in both capacities. Juan’s work is consistently regarded among the very best in the industry, having won every major award in advertising, including multiple Grands Prix and the elusive Black Pencil at the D&AD. Juan wrote and directed Cadbury’s groundbreaking “Gorilla,” the most awarded spot of that year, counting among its accolades the highly coveted Grand Prix at the Cannes Lions and a Black Pencil at the D&AD for its exceptional creative excellence and innovation. “Gorilla” has been voted “Favourite Ad of All Time” in the United Kingdom and “Ad of the Decade” by AdAge. Juan is the creator of the legendary, visually stunning Sony Bravia Trilogy (“Balls,” “Paint,” and “Playdoh”). “Balls” is one of the most awarded spots of all time, famously winning, among other awards, multiple Pencils at the D&D as well as a staggering 15 Golds and 4 Grands Prix from the British Arrows (formerly known as the British Television Advertising Awards), Cannes Lions, the Clios, the ADC Annual Awards, Midsummer, LIAA, Sharks, and New York Festivals Advertising Awards. “Balls” was also voted “Ad of the Decade” by Campaign Magazine. Reputed as one of most awarded advertising campaigns of the 2010s, Juan’s breathtaking work on “Beds” for Ikea was awarded the highest honor (“Best Crafted Commercial of the Year”) at the British Arrows as well as Gold for Best Direction in addition to taking home multiple Golds at the Cannes Lions, Ciclope, and the Clios and multiple Pencils at the D&AD. The ethereal film was also voted “Best Campaign of the Year” by Campaign Magazine. In 2019, Juan was hand-picked to direct Rolex’s “Letters of Excellence” Oscars Campaign featuring Martin Scorsese, Kathryn Bigelow, James Cameron, and Alejandro Inarritu. Juan has been nominated for the prestigious Directors Guild of America’s Award for Outstanding Achievement in Commercials and has been written about in The Wall Street Journal, The Independent, The Guardian, The Times, and Esquire Magazine. Juan has also been recognized as one of “London’s Most Influential People” by The Evening Standard. Juan’s debut feature film TWO/ONE, written and directed by Juan and starring Boyd Holbrook, Song Yan, Zhu Zhu, and Beau Bridges, tells the story of two men who mirror a lonely existence on opposite ends of the world. The philosophical drama premiered at the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival. In reviewing the film, Variety hailed Juan as an “undeniably talented filmmaker” and The Hollywood Reporter praised the film as “Grounded, stylish filmmaking. A solid demonstration of his skill.” Juan’s second feature film, RISA AND THE WIND PHONE (RISA Y LA CABINA DEL VIENTO), starring Diego Peretti, Cazzu, Joaquín Furriel, and Elena Romero, debuted at the Mar del Plata Film Festival, where it won Best Film and Best Director. Juan’s third feature film, THE MATCH, is a documentary about the historic Argentina-England match during the 1986 World Cup. THE MATCH was selected as part of the Official Selection 2026 at the 79th annual Cannes Film Festival, where it had its world premiere.
