Robert Eggers is a filmmaker renowned for his meticulous attention to historical detail and his singular approach to folklore-driven horror. Eggers began his career as a designer and director in the New York theater scene, where his fascination with period accuracy and archaic language flourished. He made his feature debut with The Witch (2016), which premiered at Sundance to immediate acclaim. The film was praised for its uncompromising commitment to historical authenticity, atmospheric dread, and breakout performances. He followed with The Lighthouse (2019), starring Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe as two lighthouse keepers descending into madness on a remote outpost. Shot in stark black and white and steeped in maritime folklore, the film earned widespread critical acclaim and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Cinematography. Most recently, Eggers directed Nosferatu (2024), a reimagining of the classic vampire tale starring Lily-Rose Depp, Nicholas Hoult, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. The film earned four Academy Award nominations. Eggers is based in New York and is currently directing Werwulf, set to release in 2026.
