Sam Davis is an Oscar-nominated multi-hyphenate filmmaker with a foundation in cinematography. After graduating from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts, he began his career by producing, shooting and editing the Academy Award-winning Netflix short Period. End of Sentence. Since then, his films have gone on to screen and win awards at Sundance, Tribeca, and SXSW. In 2023, Sam was nominated for an Emmy for his cinematography work on the SXSW-winning New York Times Op-Doc Long Line of Ladies, which he also produced. He later produced and shot the short doc Nai Nai & Wài Pó, which sold to Disney+ and was nominated for an Academy Award in 2024. Sam then worked as the cinematographer on the 2024 Sundance Film Festival breakout, Dìdi, which won the Audience Award and sold to Focus Features. His latest project, a docu-fiction hybrid short film called The Singers won an Oscar in 2026 for best short film. Sam’s focus as a director is on elevated non-fiction storytelling as well as the gray area in between narrative and documentary. Michigan-born and raised, he currently resides in Los Angeles and is commercially represented by RESET Content.
